11.12- Introduction to Weaving

115.00

Sunday, November 12, 2017

10:00 AM - 2:00 PM CST

Materials : Metal Lap Loom + All Weaving Supplies Provided

Lunch: Potluck Style. A sampling of food made from locally sourced produce will be available; please feel free to bring your favorite recipe to share.

Come learn the basics of weaving alongside a humble herd of curious critters.

In this workshop you will learn the basics of weaving on a small metal frame loom using locally sourced wool, alpaca, cotton, linen, silk, and hemp.

We will begin by learning how to (warp) prepare the loom. Basic weaving techniques including tabby weave, creating tassels, tapered braids, and ways to add texture will be covered. I will also share tips and tricks to finish your masterpiece and remove it from the loom. Meet the alpaca and explore the farm after a light lunch.

You will go home with your woven masterpiece, a metal lap loom, naturally dyed fiber samples for future creations, and a printout with step-by-step instructions + additional weaving resources.

If you already have a yarn stash and are enthusiastic, please feel free to bring along any material you may have.

The location for this workshop is in the front room of the farmhouse, originally built in 1860. Please join us as we continue to add to the rich history of this gathering space while enjoying the company of like minds and fresh ideas.

(Space is limited to 8 participants)
