2/16/19 - Introduction to Sweater Unraveling

50.00

Saturday February 16, 2019

12:00 PM - 3:00 PM CST

Location: Fiber Farm,  Tracy City, TN

Light snacks / refreshments provided, but please feel free to bring anything you wish to enjoy.

Materials : Please bring your own seam ripper / sharp pointed scissors

*Participants are encouraged to bring a bundle of sweaters they wish to unravel, however keep in mind they may not all meet the criteria required to be unraveled.  Extra sweaters will be made available to all participants in the event they did not bring any sweaters, or if the ones they did bring are not usable*

Come learn how to deconstruct and unravel old or thrifted sweaters for their yarn!

This class will be led by Justin Near, a Nashville fiber arts guru, in my humble opinion.

Sweater Unraveling

Unraveling knit sweaters can provide you with plenty of yarn, but not all sweaters are made equal. Learn what to look for in choosing the right sweater, de-seaming, and unraveling (the fun part!).

Every student will be provided with one thrift-store sweater. Feel free to bring a sweater from home to learn more about it.

EQUIPMENT: There will be a small amount of tools to share – seam rippers, small scissors, nostepinnes, swifts, drop spindles, and perhaps a spinning wheel – but if you have any of these or similar items, please bring them (especially seam rippers and swifts!). You’ll be able to take home all of the yarn you unravel plus the rest of your sweater to finish unraveling it. You will also take home the knowledge to continue the process on your own time.

By the end of the day, you will have a deeper understanding of the steps required to unravel your own yarn for knitting, crocheting, weaving, and other fiber arts.

(At the end of the workshop, everyone is invited to take a brief tour of the farm and meet the furry menagerie.)

The location for this workshop is in the front room of the farmhouse, originally built in 1860. Please join us as we continue to add to the rich history of this gathering space while enjoying the company of like minds and a warm fire.

All are welcome, no previous experience is necessary

(Space is limited to 8 participants)

*Due to the time intensive preparation that is required, all workshop sales are final. Tickets may be transferred to another attendee in case of any last minute changes in plans.
